The 1910-11 Sniders and Abrahams set is Series F of the Standard Cigarettes football cards, known to collectors as the “Rays” series. Each card shows a leading VFL player’s head framed by bands of colour radiating outwards in his club’s colours. It’s one of the most striking designs of the era. The 60 cards cover nine VFL clubs. The back changed slightly too. The player’s years of service with his club, a feature of the backs since 1906-07, no longer appears. Take care not to confuse this set with the 1921 J.J. Schuh Magpie Cigarettes issue, which used a very similar rays design and is also called the Rays series. The cigarette brand on the back is the quickest way to tell them apart.
