1912-13 Sniders & Abrahams (Series H)
1912-13 Sniders & Abrahams (Standard Cigarettes) VFL – Star
Collection: 60 cards
Scarcity rating: 6
The 1912-13 Sniders and Abrahams set is Series H of the Standard Cigarettes football cards, known as the “Star” series. For the first time in the run, players aren’t shown in their club uniforms. Instead, each card has a slightly smaller head-and-shoulders portrait of the player wearing a suit, set inside a star-shaped frame. Vertical stripes in his club’s colours fill the space around the star. The 60 cards cover nine VFL clubs. The back still gives the player’s name and playing position, but it now carries a banner advertisement for either Standard or Peter Pan cigarettes. Every card in the set was printed with both versions of the back, with both seemingly similar scarcity. A complete run of both backs therefore makes a natural extended challenge for advanced collectors.
